Weekend HW - Finish Annotating Thoreau's "Civil Disobedience" and Emerson's "Self-Reliance"

Unfortunately many failed to finish Emerson's short essay before Friday's (1-14-11) classes. This hurt them when trying to correlate two Calvin & Hobbs cartoons and later their group work with the Hip-Hop cut, "Nature: Determine It", by Melissa Carry, The Peoples' Proverb and Kyle Carson.

Hint for success:
If there is ever a reading, equation, scientific theory, map, graph or assignment that confuses you:

1. review the in-class notes/book, outlines, graphic organizer

2. Talk to older peers, parents, guardians who may have prior experience with materials

3. e-mail any teacher who has read, studied or may have prior experience with materials

4. e-mail, stop by during L&L or SOS with any teacher or any other teacher that may be familiar with material.

5. e-mail, stop by your Kathe, Pam, Eric, Ross Ms. Tartaglione's or anyone's room during L&L or SOS or AFTER SOS.

6. ask a coach, a religious leader, a friend's parent or guardians, grandparents, or other adult that may be of help.

7. GOOGLE "Understanding Emerson's 'Self-Reliance'" or ""Reading Topographical Map Keys" or "What is the Pythagorean Theorem?" or "Biochemistry"

This is what I came up with in 15 seconds of Safe-searching : "Understanding Emerson's 'Self-Reliance'"

Someone once said, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste." Please, if a math equation stumps you, a scientific hypothesis doesn't make sense, OR likewise conjugating the PluPerfect tense of those Spanish verbs, order of operations, dates of significant events leading up to WWI, please....

Start with #1 through #7 or until greater understanding has been accomplished.

Though "ignorance is bliss," you should not strive to live in ignorance.

Be the advocate for self growth through proactive learning.

Good Luck,
Mr. Carson

The moral virtues, then, are produced in us neither by nature nor against nature. Nature, indeed, prepares in us the ground for their reception, but their complete formation is the product of habit.
